This important volume provides a wealth of information on aerial vehicles and their potential roles in revolutionizing agricultural practices through spectral analysis of terrains, soils, crops, water resources, diseases, floods, droughts, and agricultural activities.
There are several semi-autonomous and autonomous (robotic) aerial vehicles that are being investigated for their effectiveness in providing detailed spectral data on agrarian regions and individual farms. Among them, small drone aircraft such as fixed-wing models and helicopters have already caught the attention of farmers. It is spreading rapidly in all corners of the farming world. However, there are many more aerial robots that are used in more detail in farming.
In this volume we focus on aerial vehicles such as parafoils, airships, aerostats and hang gliders and how they are evaluated for use on experimental farms and fields. Several aerial vehicles, such as robotic parafoils, have been adopted to acquire aerial spectral data and visual imagery to aid agronomic practices.
These and other aerial robots are expected to change and improve the use of the sky in agriculture and the way we perform agronomic practices in the very near future.
